J. Douglas Martin
Age 42, of Holly Springs, NC, formerly of Bethel Park, PA passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 15, 2018.
Beloved son of Nancy Hengstler and her husband Bill, of Naples, FL and Dan Martin and his wife Tina, of Oakland, PA. In addition to his parents, J. is survived by his sister Sara Martin, of Chicago, IL, step-sister Dee Hengstler, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, step-brother Bill Hengstler, Jr. and his wife Valerie of Carolina Shores, NC, his grandmother Francis Shaw, of Manteno, IL and several aunts, uncles and cousins. J. was predeceased by his grandparents Cecil (Bud) Shaw and Betty and Vernon Martin.
J. graduated from St. Thomas More Grade School in 1990, Bethel Park High School in 1994, and Penn State University (Behrend Campus in Erie, PA) in 1999, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. J. had been employed by Caterpillar, Inc. in Sanford, NC since 2004.
In addition to Penn State Football, J. was well known to his friends and co-workers to be an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan. J. was a kind-hearted, good- natured, generous soul, and loved his menagerie of cats.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday evening December 5, 2018, at 6 PM at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Oakland, PA. A parking lot is available behind the church on N. Dithridge Street and there is also on-street parking. Dan and Tina Martin invite relatives and friends to visit the family on Thursday, December 6, 2018, from 11 am – 2 pm at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, followed by a private burial with final prayers at Jefferson Memorial Park.
The family is planning a Memorial Gathering to celebrate J.’s life, which will be announced at a later date, for friends, classmates, and neighbors of J’s. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to your favorite charity.
