Obituary For Melanie A. (Baran) Hahn

October 31, 1931 - September 10, 2017

Hahn, Melanie A. (Baran) Age 85, of Paramount Sr. Living in Bethel Park, former lifelong resident of Penn Hills, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 10, 2017.

Raised in Beaver Meadows, PA, Melanie was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, and graduated from Hazleton High School. She completed her degree in Home Economics and Specialized in Early Childhood Development at The Pennsylvania State University, where her brother Carl introduced her to Joseph Hahn. They married in 1954, residing at Ft. Campbell, KY, before moving to Penn Hills, where they were active supporters of Penn Hills School District and charter members of Highlands Aqua Club. For many years, Melanie devoted her musical talents as an organist to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, the family's parish. A Penn State devotee, Mel sent all four children there and created many happy memories for them, hosting Saturday's tailgates at Happy Valley. Moving to Paramount Sr. Living in 2011, Mel enjoyed weekly craft projects, bingo, prayer sessions, rosaries, and Happy Hours. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, parents John and Mary (Scheer) Baran, brother Carl and wife Barbara, sister Lorraine and nephew Lance. She is survived by her children, Rosemary, Patricia, Richard (Lori) and Julie (David) Miller, her beloved granddaughter Lauren Miller; her brothers Victor (Lorraine) Baran and Roman (Rita) Baran; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Tuesday, September 12, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where a blessing service will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to a charity of one's choice.
