and Support Staff
Our funeral directors strive to take care of the details of the funeral so that you can focus on what’s most important—celebrating your loved one.
The funeral director is your main point of contact throughout the arrangement process and funeral. A funeral director is always on-site for visitations and funeral services to support you and ensure everything goes according to the arrangements. In addition to walking you through the planning process, the funeral director is responsible for taking care of all the logistical and legal details of the funeral, cremation, or burial.
John F. Slater
John was raised in the Baldwin-Whitehall area. He graduated from the College of Wooster in 1975 and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1976. John has been working at the funeral home since 1969 and become a licensed funeral director in 1977. He is a member of the Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association (ACFDA), the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), Economic Development South, Brentwood Business Owners Association, and Brentwood Baldwin Whitehall Chamber of Commerce. John and his wife, Paula, reside in Bethel Park and have three sons, John, Andrew, and Luke.
Andrew C. Slater
Andrew grew up in Bethel Park. He graduated from Duquesne University and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He has been with the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc. since 2008. He plays hockey in a local men’s league and is a member of the ACFDA and NFDA. Andrew and his wife, Kimberly, reside in Jefferson Hills, and have two children, Mason and Grace.
Jeffrey L. Maist
Jeff was born and raised in Brentwood. He is a 1989 graduate of Brentwood High School, a 1993 graduate of Point Park University, and a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science with a degree in Mortuary Science. He has been a funeral director with the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc. since 1997 and is a member of the ACFDA and NFDA. Jeff and his wife, Kelly, reside in Whitehall with their three boys, J. Brady, Teagan, and Spencer.
Jeffrey M. Stenglein
A life-long resident of Baldwin, Jeff graduated from Baldwin High School in 1988. He attended CCAC-South and Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He has been a licensed funeral director since 1996 and has been with the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc. since 2001. Jeff has served his community as a life member of Baldwin Fire Company, serving as President for 15 years, and retiring after 22 years of service. He is also a member of the ACFDA, the NFDA, and currently serves on the Brentwood EMS Board of Directors.
Christopher G. Ziegler
Chris is a life-long resident of Brentwood and, in addition to graduating from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, earned a degree in Gerontology from California University of Pennsylvania. He has been with John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc. since 2004 and is a member of ACFDA and NFDA. Chris and his wife, Dawn, have four children, Alayna, C.J., Josh and Nathan.
Luke is our funeral intern. He graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2013, attended Point Park University, and graduated from Pittsburgh Mortuary School and Point Park in 2020. Luke is the youngest of the three Slater sons and he is eager to be joining his brothers, John and Andrew, and his father, John, at the John F. Slater Funeral Home.
Amy R. Volek
Amy was born and raised in North Huntingdon and is a 1998 graduate of Norwin High School, and a 2002 graduate of California University of PA and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science with a degree in Mortuary Science. Amy earned her insurance license in 2004. She started with the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc. in 2019 as a funeral planning specialist. Amy and her husband, Jeff, reside in North Huntingdon with their three children Noah, Ethan, & Chloe.
John C. Slater
A life-long resident of Bethel Park, John graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2002. He attended Bowling Green State University and the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. John earned his insurance license in 2018 and in 2019, joined the staff of John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc. as a funeral planning specialist. In addition, John coached hockey for Bethel Park High School for several years, and in 2016 launched Taste, a catering company specializing in charcuterie.
