Obituary For Arthur "Bud" Gastgeb

Age 87, of Bethel Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.

Beloved husband of Annette “Patty”; proud father and BEST Dad ever of Vincent (Barb), Phyliss and Jim; devoted grandfather of Michael (Kellee), Kelly Settino (Mason), Corey and Lauren. Bud proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine Corps Platoon Sergeant from 1953-1956 during the Korean War era. Known as “the Razor,” he was part of the special forces Military Police and Shore Patrol and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. Bud was honorably discharged in 1956 and received numerous accolades thereafter, including over nine commendations and certificates of appreciation. He was named “Marine of the Year” in 2007 by the Marine Corps League, South Hills Pittsburgh Detachment 726 and United States Marine Corps, for his unselfish dedication and meritorious service.

Mr. Gastgeb held a distinguished career in sales as an executive in the Food Brokerage industry, retiring as Sr. Vice President of Sales at age 62. Bud was an avid golfer well into his retirement years. In his free time, he enjoyed frequenting the local Starbucks, car cruises, watching football, golf and mastering crossword puzzles. He cherished and provided for his family above all. Bud will be fondly missed by everyone who knew him.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 3-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Catherine LaBoure' Parish, St. Louise de Marillac Church at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boys Town - www.support.boystown.org, Wounded Warriors - www.carryforward.woundedwarriorproject.org or South Hills Interfaith Movement-SHIM - www.shimcares.org.
