November 24, 1920 - June 10, 2015 Gardill, Barbara Rita "Dolly", age 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 of Baldwin. Barbara, lovingly know as Dolly to family and friends was born in Baldwin Borough on November 24, 1920 to Michael Gardill and Margaret Gardill Schlote. Barbara graduated from St. Wendelin High School. She joined the Coast Guard Women's Reserve known as the SPARS (after the motto Semper Paratus - Always Ready) and was honorably discharged. In 1945, she was hired by United Airlines and worked as a sales ticket agent until her retirement in 1982. She was very active during her retirement years taking lessons to learn to play the organ. Barbara was an active member of the Brentwood Women's Club for many years and enjoyed attending cultural events throughout the city of Pittsburgh. She looked forward to attending the Latrobe Air Show every year with family. Barbara was a lifelong member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church where she volunteered weekly in the parish office.

Barbara loved her annual two-week trip to Holden Beach with her sisters and always enjoyed traveling and visiting with many lifelong friends. She was very involved in the lives of her 12 nieces and nephews and their families.

Barbara is survived by her loving sister Norma Gardill Boyette (Donald) of Newport News, Virginia. Her nieces and nephews, Daniel McGinnis (Deanne) of San Diego, California, Lynn Miller (William) of Ada, Michigan, John McGinnis (Cynthia), Bonnie Vello (Remo), Patrick McGinnis (Mary), Norma McGinnis (Joan), Sharon Young (Walter), Noreen Campbell (Gary) all of Pittsburgh, John "Jackie" Fess of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Thomas Fess of Reading, Pennsylvania, Jay Group (Janet) of Solon, Ohio and 26 great nieces and nephews and 29 great-great nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Michael Gardill and Margaret Gardill Schlote, her siblings and their spouses, George Gardill (Kathrine), Sr. Claretta Gardill, OSF, Ann Fess (Sylvester), Marie Gardill, Rosella McGinnis (Elwood), Louise Gardill, Marion Group (William), Stella Gardill and her very special nephew, William M. Group.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, 2728 Custer Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15227. If desired, family suggests contributions to your favorite charity in honor of "Dolly".
