Obituary For Dan M. Frasier

August 8, 1942 - August 16, 2016

Frasier Dan M. Age 74, on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.

From the athletic field to the board room, success seems to have followed Dan Frasier. Dan graduated from South Side High School in 1960, where he played football, basketball and baseball for four years. His coaches, Dave Nichol and Bill Watt, did a great job in preparing Dan for his collegiate playing experience at Geneva College from 1960 through 1964, where Dan earned All-West Penn Conference honors as a Quarterback and Defensive End and was chosen captain of the football team in 1963. Dan was also a starting catcher for the Geneva baseball team from 1963 through 1964, earning All-Conference honors. Following his graduation from Geneva in 1964, Dan signed a professional baseball contract with the Houston Colt .45s (now the Houston Astros). In 1966, Dan joined the Geneva College staff as Assistant Professor of Physical/Safety Education and as Assistant Football Coach and Head Baseball Coach. In 1969, Dan was promoted to Head Football Coach with the goal of restoring a winning football program, given that Geneva had won only one game in the previous three years and had a 7-45-3 record over a seven-year period. In 1971, Dan's Golden Tornadoes established Geneva's first consecutive victories in a decade, beating Frostburg State and Slippery Rock in their opening games. Geneva continued to roll to seven straight wins, their longest streak since 1930 with an overall season record of 7 wins and 2 losses. The 1971 Tornadoes established all-time records in total points (264), average points per game (28.5), total offense (3,358 yards), and rushing offense (2,447 yards). Nationally, Geneva ranked 9th in rushing offense, 15th in total offense, and 24th in rushing defense. In 1971, Dan deservedly received the NAIA District 18 and the National Area VIII "Coach of the Year" awards in football. Dan was inducted into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame in April 2015. In addition to football, Dan successfully guided the Golden Tornado baseball team through six consecutive winning seasons which included winning a conference championship in 1968. Dan has also served as a basketball official as a member of the Beaver Valley Basketball Officials Association and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association. In 1971, Dan began a career in business management as human resources manager at Union National Bank of Pittsburgh. Dan retired in 2006 as Director of Corporate Human Resources at Matthews International Corporation, a Pittsburgh based company, where he spent most of his business career. Dan is survived by his beloved wife Elaine (Evans) for 28 years; loving father of Emily Frasier and Kristen Allison; grandfather of Andrew and Alex Maffett; brother of Gene Frasier; uncle of Cory (Barbara) Frasier, Travis (Luann) Frasier and Curt Frasier; great-uncle of Cassandra, Tristan, Allison, Amanda, Ashley, Dawson, Jordan and Kayla. Dan was very proud to have his daughter Emily follow in his footsteps as a Westminster College graduate. He was always a friend to anyone, he was caring, compassionate and lived for his family. He was also a longtime choir member at Union Presbyterian Church. On behalf of Dan, we would like to thank his brother Gene and his friends, especially Dick Hurley, Bill Dixon, Dick Grace, Ron Galbreath, and the South Side High School "gang" who went out of their way to take him out to breakfast, lunch, or a sporting event, which Dan loved to do. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11:00. If desired, family suggests contributions to Union Presbyterian Church Building Campaign, 6165 Steubenville Pike, McKees Rocks, PA 15136.

Condolences

Elaine, Gene and family, so sorry to see the passing of Dan. You boys were grown and gone before I started visiting Dan's Mom and Dad - Gene and Mary. My Mom worked with Mary, who was such a wonderful woman. We both send our sincere condolences with the passing of Dan. We cannot attend the service, Mom just got out of the hospital again, and is in assisted care at Fox's in Chester, but ask me to please pass on both of our heartfelt regrets of your loss. Gene and Mary were so proud of both boys, and Gene, she is real sorry about your brother. Rosa Jane Rager Krista Rager
