Obituary For Diane Elizabeth Kubiak

November 1, 1950 - February 5, 2018 Kubiak, Diane Elizabeth

On Monday, February 5, 2018, Diane Elizabeth Kubiak, age 67, passed peacefully, while surrounded by her loving family. Born November 1, 1950, daughter of the late Steve J. and Laura E. (Gutowski) Juarin of Pittsburgh's Mount Washington. She was preceded in death by brothers, Stephen R. (Melinda) Juarin and David S. (Jimmie Lou) Juarin. She is survived by her loving husband, Joe H. Kubiak, daughter Kristyn (and partner Alex Desrochers) Kubiak, son Mychal (Alicia) Kubiak, brother Michael P. (Kimberly) Juarin, sisters, Joanne M. (Steve) Hallock and Nancy R. (Tony) Lisiecki, and numerous nieces and nephews. Diane, a strong and resilient woman who loved camping and the outdoors, was a devoted wife and mother who resided in Castle Shannon. She earned her degree in Communications from Penn State and was the first woman broadcast engineer hired at Channel 3 in Phoenix, AZ. She met her husband and they moved to Southern California for bright opportunities in broadcasting. Later she made a career change to teaching, so she could spend more time raising her children and being with her family. After returning to Pittsburgh she enjoyed family gatherings, having Saturday morning coffee over the phone with her daughter, and spending time catching up with her son. Friends and family will be received Saturday, February 10 from 5-8 p.m. at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, where a Blessing Service will be held at 8 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation in Diane's name be made to your favorite charity.

Love goes out to all the Kubiaks, Juarins, Gutowskis and others in Diane's circle. Cousin Diane, my younger by year, holds in my memories as a playmate and companion in the Wynoka Street house in our tyke years. All those memories and the joyful, sometimes chaotic, gatherings of cousins and kin that followed were brighter for her smile, laugh and wit. Her passing is a shock to the heart.
