Obituary For Donna L. Kerr

Of Baldwin, age 72, peacefully slipped away with her wife holding her hand on Sunday, July 9, 2023.

Beloved wife of Alaina Winters; devoted daughter of the late Blaine Kerr and Dorothy Lorraine Kerr; caring sister of the late Bruce Kerr; doting niece of the late Gloria Mrazsko; preceded in death by her previous partner Geraldine D'Amico; she was loved by Alaina's parents Bernae and Cal, and also survived by her life-long friend Laura Semonich. Donna valued family above all things and was proud of the care she provided for all her family members. She was especially grateful for the family she created with Alaina and their sweet dog DeeDee. When it came to her family, Donna was self-sacrificing, and she was proud of her 33 year career at Verizon that enabled her to provide for them. Donna was a Penguins fan since literally Day One when the team was formed in 1967. She was able to fulfill one of her dreams to travel to the Hockey Hall of Fame and touch Lord Stanley's Cup in 2016. Donna had a quick wit and intelligent mind. She went to college in her forties and graduated CCAC with her Associate’s in Paralegal Studies and a 4.0 GPA. She had a strong-willed spirit and was quite a fighter, from her love of hockey and boxing to her survival from breast cancer and her final year-long battle with a cascading series of illnesses. While Donna’s feisty spirit served her well in difficult times, she was most amazing when she let her deeply compassionate and caring nature shine. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memorials Processing, Memphis, TN 38105.

Donna was greatly loved and is heartfelt missed. Although I did not know her well from personal experience, I got to know of and about her through my friend, her loving life partner, Alaina. I loved that she was able to bring love and security to Alaina's life, and a smile to her face and eyes. I am so happy for the adventures they shared. I am thankful to have been able to share even a few moments of Donna's life. I am thankful she had the love and comfort of Alaina holding her hand as she left this earthly life; what a blessing - so hoping we all have that as we take our last breaths. Praying for comfort and strength for those Donna has left behind.
