Obituary For Edward Anthony Zanoni

Edward Anthony Zanoni of Brookdale, Mt Lebanon, passed away peacefully Monday morning, August 18, 2025, at the age of 91. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 27, 1933, the son of Silvio and Adeline (Marinelli) Zanoni. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Carmela M. Zanoni and Irene A. Zanoni, both of Milwaukee.

After high school graduation from Messmer High School, Edward entered the Air Force where he served for six years, and was a part of the NATO Sixth Allied Tactical Air Force in Izmir, Turkey. He was a graduate of Marquette University in 1960 where he received a BS in Civil Engineering - it was during this time that he was elected for the Pi Mu Epsilon Fraternity, a national honorary mathematics fraternity, of which he was very proud. He then attended Lehigh University and graduated in 1963 where he received his MS in Civil Engineering, and later from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1969 where he received his PhD. in Civil Engineering. He retired as a Manager of Structural Mechanics from Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory after 35 years.

He and his wife, Helen H. (Steller) Zanoni were married on September 28, 1963 and had celebrated 59 years of marriage prior to her death in 2023. He loved playing music with the grandchildren, especially jazz music and the accordion. He was proud of the fact that he taught them how to play tennis, as he enjoyed playing tennis with them during the year and at the beach. Chess was also something he enjoyed playing with the grandchildren. He is survived by his two children, Maria H. Kish (Robert) of Ross Township and Edward J. Zanoni (Anne-Marie) of Narberth, PA; and seven grandchildren, Helen (Owen) Shotts, and Theresa Kish; and Patrick, Andrew, Joseph, Michael, and Kevin Zanoni. He is also survived by nephews, Michael (Kathleen) Stobba and Greg (Marian) Stobba; and a grandnephew, John Stobba, son of Michael and Kathleen.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, August 31, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday, September 1, 2025 at 9:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Sylvester Church at 10:30 a.m.
