Obituary For Edward Frank Jarkiewicz, Sr.

Age 92, on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, of Whitehall.

Beloved husband of 62 years to the late Julia (Moryken); loving father of Kathleen Brennan Buckoski (Brian)(preceded in death by Charles K. Brennan), Linda (Minor) Shapiro, Edward F., Jr. (Monica) and Nancy (Thomas) Songer; devoted grandfather of Drew (Casey), Johnathan, Stephen, Nicholas, Alison and Dennis; brother of the late Emily Jarkiewicz, Helen Bieniek and Joseph Jarkiewicz. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Edward retired in 1990 from Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory. He was a kind, gentle man and a loving, devoted husband, father and pap. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and with his beloved Julia. He was a master gardener with an extensive vegetable garden. Edward was a devout catholic who enjoyed ushering at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church. Visitation and services will be held privately. Arrangements handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church, 5200 Greenridge Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.

Your dad was another example of the Greatest Generation. He served his country, his parish and with your mom established a loving, kind family. We extend our sympathies to your family.

    To the Jarkiewicz family--I am very sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Jarkiewicz, one of my favorite neighbors I grew up with on Azalea Drive, knowing him since 1964. I remember him as a super friendly and kind hearted man who always had a smile on his face. It's so sad how our parents have been passing away over the years. I still have my dad who will be 95 in August. I believe he is the oldest surviving parent of all the families who lived on Azalea Drive since the 1960s. But I take comfort that we will see them all again someday. May he rest in peace!

    Dear Jarkiewicz Family, my deepest sympathies and prayers for you all. I enjoyed seeing your Dad at 12 noon Mass at St. Gabe's and was honored that he would ask me to help usher with Mr. Veri. I knew your Dad worked at Westinghouse Bettis but did not know he was in the Navy. I am thankful for his service. May God bless your Dad's soul as he joins your sweet Mom in their eternal reward.     Dear Jarkiewicz Family, My deepest condolences for the loss of your father. Growing up as a kid years ago, I was at the Jarkiewicz home many times. I was always treated kindly by your father and mother. I remember we would be playing basketball in the back driveway and when your father would come home from work, one of the neighborhood kids would say Mr. J. make a basket for us. Mr. J would then go back to the furthest part of the driveway and would sink the shot almost every time. He rarely missed it. Good memories. Also, He had the largest and best garden in the neighborhood. God Bless!

    We are sorry for your lost. We were in the St. Gabriel's card club with Ed and Julia. Wonderful people. One time we were playing cards at their house and in addition to snacks during card playing, dessert was always served at the end of the evening. Our daughter was very young at the time and her grandfather was watching her. We could not stay for dessert so Julia gave us the entire homemade pie to take with us!
