Ed is my cousin who I only know in name. How touched I am that his family chose to ask for donations to Empowering Eddie. I was Eddie's home care nurse for 16 months. I hope you will read about Eddie here and find it in your heart to help children like him.
EMPOWERING EDDIE
Empowering Eddie was formed to help Eddie and children like him live the fullest lives possible. We are raising funds to empower children in need; to help pay for therapies, medical supplies or equipment, otherwise not covered by insurance. We also want to help those who have unexpected hospital stays and need help with food and parking. We want to give back.
Eddie was born on June 6, 2012, weighing 4 lbs. 6 oz. After a normal, full term pregnancy, we had no idea he was that small. He spent his first 12 days in the hospital having test after test. He spent the next five years at numerous doctorâ??s appointments, long hospital stays, and endless therapy sessions.
Today, at five, Eddie is 100% tube fed with an extreme oral aversion. He is non-verbal and does not communicate, with a severe intellectual disability. He can walk using a walker, but is very unstable, needing guidance as he moves.
Eddie does not have a specific diagnosis, though he has signs of Cerebral Palsy and is Epileptic. He was diagnosed this past March with epilepsy. We are working hard to get his seizures under control.
A genetic test performed when Eddie was a year old was recently re-visited. There is a potential new genetic etiology (cause of disease) involving a mutated gene called the SMARCC2 gene that Eddie possesses. The gene is suspected to be potentially pathogenic. There are six other known children that have this gene mutation. A doctor from Canada and a doctor from Baylor University are interested in collaborating on a research study to further assess if the gene does produce disease and the associated medical concerns. This could give us an outlook of Eddieâ??s future.
Eddie is a happy, playful little

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I can't imagine the pain you're suffering right now, and I just wanted to share a scriptural thought that brought me comfort when I lost my grandmother. At Revelation 21:4, we read a beautiful promise from God that the world will be transformed into a beautiful paradise where no one will suffer or cry anymore, and death will be a thing of the past. We are also promised in John 5:28,29 that Jesus will bring back to life those that we have lost in death. It will be so wonderful to see the ones we've lost in a world where we don't have to fear death anymore. There is so much more information about the comforting hope we can have from the Bible at www.jw.org.

I am lost for words. I loved Ed like a second dad. His family will have a void that can't ever be filled except knowing that he was loved by many
I will miss my talks with him and all the inspiration he gave me over the past 20 years
All my love and strength!
