Obituary For Edward W. Schneider

April 24, 1928-January 31, 2019

Three things were important to Edward W. Schneider - his family, his church and the family business. He passed away on January 31, 2019, at age 90 surrounded by his family. Ed worked for most of his life at the family's business, Schneider's Dairy, retiring as Vice President of Sales. He served his country in the Korean War, participating in the Battle of Pork Chop Hill, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in the Infantry of the United States Army. The war made a lasting impression on him and deepened his faith. He was an active member of St. Gabriel's of the Sorrowful Virgin Church, lifetime member of the VFW and member of VFW Post 1810. He enjoyed bowling and golf, watching Pittsburgh sports, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances; his children Ann (Phil) Smith, Edward (Diane) Schneider Jr, Jane Callahan, Nancy (Jeff) Hunt, David (Bonnie) Schneider and Laura Saffer; 14 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as his sister Catherine (Jack) Murphy, brother Kenneth Schneider, and sisters-in-law Valeta Schneider and Catherine Schneider. He is predeceased by his parents, Edward C. and Catherine Schneider, brothers, William Schneider and Paul Schneider, sister-in-law, Earleen Schneider and son-in-law, Kenneth Saffer. Special appreciation and thanks for the care provided by the staff at Artis Senior Memory Care and Advanced Personal Care. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Saturday and Sunday, February 2 & 3, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Parish Share Program, 5200 Greenridge Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
