Obituary For Eileen Bradford Livingston

Eileen Bradford Surdoval Livingston, 93, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024. Eileen was a prominent Pittsburgh sports figure in the 1980’s. In 1983 she followed Red Manning as the Duquesne University Athletic Director, a position she held for five years. She was the first woman to hold the position of an NCAA Division 1 Athletic Director. Eileen was one of the best amateur female tennis players in the Pittsburgh area. She attended the University of Pittsburgh at the age of 35 becoming full-time in 1971. Once full-time at the age of 41, she played the #1 position on the Pitt team her Junior and Senior years. She also completed a Masters and Doctoral Degree in Sports Administration at Pitt. While her children were young she played volleyball at a high level on a Pittsburgh regional team that competed in Pennsylvania and many of the surrounding states. This level of volleyball at the time was part of the Olympic Trials system. Mother of Nancy, Bob (Bunny) and Wayne; Grandmother of Brad (Roselyn), Molly, Meri Jo (Mark), Abby, Dane (Aubree) and Deanna; Great-grandmother of Preston, Evan, Bella, John, Maya, Danny and Benji. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Livingston. Arrangements were handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Brownsville Road, Brentwood. The burial took place on March 2, 2024 at the Southside Cemetery with her family in attendance. She was interred next to Jack Livingston.

    My sincere condolences on the passing of Eileen. I remember her vividly when she had medical problems, and I had the privilege of taking care of her. She always had a jovial positive attitude, and it was always a joy to see her on follow up in the office. May she rest in peace. Elias HILAL MD.
