Obituary For Elida Popovski Yovanof

Age 62, born in Brajchino, Macedonia, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Beloved mother of Nikki (Clayton) Little and Chris (Michelle) Yovanof; proud Baba of Alexandria, Josie and Owen; loving daughter of the late Mitre "Jimmy" and Kola Popovski; sister of Walter (Marika) Popovski and Patti (Rade) Opacic. Also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.

She came to the United States as a baby with her parents and brother in 1961. After time at the University of Pittsburgh and Robert Morris, Elida went on running the family business, the Royal Place. She was a tough, hardworking, and determined woman - you had to be in order to succeed in the restaurant and bar line of work. She was built for it. But her ability to succeed in that environment never overshadowed the pure kindness, love, and passion for others. Later in life she branched out into owning the Royal Touch Bridal Salon with her aunt, Draga. She was energetic about Pittsburgh sports and politics. But nothing meant more to her than her family, as portrayed in her many social media posts. She opened many doors for her children, ensuring they had every opportunity in life to succeed, that maybe she didn’t. Elida loved fiercely. And her greatest joy was her three grandchildren. She shared with them her love of baking, pictures, and laughing. They enjoyed many trips to Eat n’ Park and the local Pizza shop and fun in the pool. They changed her world, and she will have undoubtedly left her mark with them as she did everyone who crossed her path.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, June 18, 2023 from 1-7 p.m. where a Pomen Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Funeral service will be on Monday, June 19, 2023 in Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 123 Gilkeson Road, Pittsburgh PA 15228 at 11:00 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 862, Carnegie, PA 15106.

May you rest in peace Mrs. Yovanof. I will remember coming to your house for our sleep overs in your basement and heading over to Frank Park to play baseball. Your witty humor always kept me on my toes 🙂 May your spirit live on through your kids and grandkids. You will be dearly missed by many. Love, Zack Carrieri

I had many opportunities to work with Elida in arranging banquets for my group, The Harmony Singers of Pittsburgh. She was always cooperative and friendly, usually going out of her way to ensure a successful arrangement.
