Obituary For Evelyn C. (Troxell) Bland

December 25, 1923 - July 11, 2018

Bland, Evelyn C. (Troxell) Age 94, of Whitehall, on July 11, 2018.

Beloved wife of the late Ray Bland; cherished mother of Cindy Lesker and son-in-law, the late Kurt Lesker, III; a loving Grandmother to Kristin (Joe) Eisel, Kurt Lesker IV and Jenna (Nick) Lloyd; Great-Grandmother to Monti, Giavanna and Brooklyn Eisel. Born in Blandburg, PA, Cambria County, on Christmas Day, Evelyn grew up working with 13 brothers and sisters in her family's grocery store. She is survived by her brother, Marlin Troxell. It was there she met the love of her life, who worked for his family's competing grocery store. During World War II she was a secretary in Washington D.C. When Ray came home from the war they wed and started a family in State College, and during that time she became a life-long Nittany Lion fan.

Affectionately known as Grams, Ga-Ga, or Aunt Evie. She was very proud of her family and loved to take care of them whether it was a day at the zoo, a bike ride in the park, or making snacks or cooking dinner for her grandkids and their friends. Evelyn was known for her feisty and witty sense of humor, fun attitude, and kind heart. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. She and her husband were active volunteers with Meals-on-Wheels, their church, the food pantry, and continually helping friends and family. They loved traveling, especially to Williamsburg and Stone Harbor.

Family and Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, Sunday, July 22nd from 5-8 p.m. and Monday, July 23rd from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Baldwin Community United Methodist Church, 5001 Baptist Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Baldwin Community United Methodist Church or Autism Connection of PA, 35 Wilson St., Pittsburgh, PA 15223.
