Obituary For Frances J. Miller

September 11, 1921 - November 5, 2015

Miller, Frances (Graziano), age 94, on Thursday, November 5, 2015, of Baldwin.

Beloved wife of the late Edward; loving mother of Elaine (Richard) Pratt, Edward (Christine), Richard (Sandra), and Glenn; grandmother of Rich, Jr. (Christie), Michael (Julie) and Jeffrey (Adrienne) Pratt, Elizabeth (Jeff) Tonarelli, Andrew (Tara) and Jason (Lauren) Miller, Melissa (Marc) Cohen, Molly (T.J.) Fike and the late Stephen Pratt; great-grandmother of 12; sister of John (the late Anne) Graziano, Margaret (the late Jerome) Platte, Robert (Dorothy) Graziano, Ronald (the late Dorothy) Graziano and the late James (Mildred) Graziano. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.A born and raised Oakland girl and Schenley High Grad, Frances worked as a Bell Telephone operator before marrying and raising a family with her husband of 57 years, Edward.Moving four times, including an infamous cross country trip to Arizona, in a 1949 Studebaker, with 3 little children, she eventually settled in Baldwin to raise 3 ornery boys and a daughter. She kept them busy with family camping trips, summers at Geneva-on-the-Lake with the aunts and uncles, little league, trips to downtown, and Isaly's ice cream cones. She worked as a mother from dawn to dusk and as her family grew, she became the "go to" babysitter and her home a family gathering place. Family was always her focus from kids to great grand kids -- her heart and door were always open. She became famous for her Thanksgiving meat stuffing, spaghetti dinners, and her not to be matched pizzelle cookies. She was a cross word puzzle aficionado, a Dancing With the Stars fan, a loyal member of the Prayer Group and the nightly gathering of friends at Canongate Apartments, and she loved her toasted almond fudge ice cream, Isaly's of course. She was a mother with great faith and unwavering love for her family, creating memories and traditions that will live on forever. She was a warm and wonderful lady.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Sunday, November 8, 2015, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral Prayer on Monday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church at 10:00 am., where Frances was a faithful member for more than 60 years. If desired, family suggests contributions to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, One Grove Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.

To the Miller Family, I was sad to hear of your mother's passing. I know she will be dearly missed. Be grateful that you were able to spend so much time with her. I'm sorry I am not able to come to the viewing, I was planning to but woke up with a scratchy throat and runny nose. I didn't want to contaminate everyone. Thank you for understanding, Chris Hardman
