Obituary For Frank J. "Sonny" Slinskey

Age 85, on Sunday, January 12, 2025, of Whitehall.

Beloved husband of 62 years to Ellen Dale (Miller); loving father of Alison (Scott) Slinskey Legg and Jenifer Slinskey; proud pappy of Aliza and Garrett Legg; brother of Christine (Norman) Kosko, Ruth (the late Jim) Zebkar and the late Dolores (Tom) Kissel and the late Irene Slinskey. Also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Born and raised on Pittsburgh’s South Side, Sonny attend St. Casimir’s High School and was on the team that won the 1956 State Basketball Championship. He proudly served our country in the US Army where he was stationed at Fort Benning Georgia. Upon discharge, he returned to Pittsburgh and joined the United States Post Office as a letter carrier, and ultimately as the Postmaster of McKees Rocks.

His greatest joy was his family, and he surrounded them with unconditional love and support. He traveled extensively with “his Queen” Ellendale , taught his girls to understand their worth and made sure his grandchildren knew that they are treasures. He demonstrated every day and in a million different ways - Love. He was quick-witted, smart, truly one of a kind and will be forever missed.

There will be no public visitation. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Sylvester Church. Arrangements handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. If desired, family suggests contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Boys Town charity (Boystown.org; Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home | Tax ID# 47-0376606).

EllenDale, Alison ,Jen, I cannot put into words what your father meant to me . He was a mentor, friend , father figure . I owe all my success to him . He was a kind man who lived by his principles. He loved all of you and it was very obvious . Not many people make a difference during their time on earth , your husband and father certainly was one !I cannot express adequately what he meant to me . I was proud to know him . And his memory will always be in my heart ! God Bless Frank .

So many memories. I remember when I was growing up, Uncle Sonny would come over every Saturday morning for coffee with my mom. I looked forward to those visits! There were always the Fourth of July parties and swimming in the backyard. My wooden king ornament always adorned your Christmas tree too! I sure will miss my Godfather. Our deepest sympathies and all of our love to Aunt EllenDale, Alison, Jenifer! 💕.
