Obituary For Harry D. Miller

October 18, 1926 - April 3, 2017

Miller, Harry D. "Hank" Age 90, on Monday, April 3, 2017, of Whitehall.

Beloved husband of the late Dottie (Morbit) Miller; father of Pamela D. Miller and the late Nancy Miller Kellams and Susan Miller Martucci; brother of the late Pearl (William) Hunter; uncle of Debra M. and William H. Hunter, Jr. Harry was a graduate of Aspinwall High School. He was an all around athlete, playing basketball and baseball for the Aspinwall Vets. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, where he received the WWII Victory Medal. He served in Korea and Japan. Upon graduation, he was offered a basketball scholarship to the University of Kentucky from the legendary coach, Adolph Rupp. After two years at Kentucky, he signed a professional baseball contract with the Detroit Tigers organization. He suffered a career ending arm injury in his second year of minor league play. Harry was also a registered PIAA basketball official. Harry was a very successful salesman/manager for HJ Heinz, Dr. Scholl Sales, Revlon Cosmetics, and Faberge. He retired as a self employed manufacturer's representative. There will be no visitation, but there will be a public memorial service on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. A private burial at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will follow. If desired, family suggests contributions to Western PA Humane Society, 1101 Western Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
