Obituary For Helen G. Simon

October 16, 1925 - October 4, 2014

Simon, Helen (Gafis)

On Saturday, October 4, 2014 of Whitehall. Beloved wife of the late Stanley Simon; loving mother of Mark; daughter of the late Andrew and Agnes (Kaiser) Gafis; cousin of Bernice Witt; predeceased by her beloved dog, Angel. Helen worked for many years as a secretary for USX Corporation in the personnel and medical departments. She had a lifelong love of animals and was a longtime volunteer at Animal Friends. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral prayer on Wednesday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church at 10:00 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to St. Elizabeth Church, 1 Grove Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15236 or Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.

    Mark, We will certainly miss your mother -- she was one of the kindest people we've ever had the pleasure of knowing. You've both been wonderful neighbors and we treasure your friendship. We'll always be grateful to Helen for bringing us together with "Snickers", who brought us so much love and happiness for many years.
