Obituary For Helen Hermine (Steller) Zanoni

Of Whitehall and St. Sylvester’s church died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, March 29, 2023 at the age of 87.

She is survived by husband Edward A. Zanoni and two children, Maria Kish (Robert) of Ross Township and Edward J. Zanoni (Anne-Marie) of Narberth, PA; and seven grandchildren: Helen and Theresa Kish; and Patrick, Andrew, Joseph, Michael, and Kevin Zanoni. She was preceded in death by her sister, Bernadine Stobba (Raymond). She is also survived by nephews Michael (Kathleen) Stobba and Greg (Marian) Stobba, and a grand nephew John Stobba, son of Michael and Kathleen. Helen was born in Chicago on November 23, 1935 to Joseph and Helen Steller. As a child she and her family moved to Milwaukee, where she attended Mount Mary College and taught elementary school for six years. In Milwaukee she met Edward Zanoni and moved to Pittsburgh in 1963 after getting married at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. She continued her teaching career in Pittsburgh for the next 20 years serving as a full-time or substitute teacher in public and Catholic grade schools. After Maria and Edward were born, she enjoyed cooking, playing and teaching piano, Ikebana flower arranging, and spent several years with the Upper St. Clair Women’s music club. This love of music extended to attending music concerts of all kinds, including Manchester Craftsman Guild jazz concerts and the Pittsburgh Symphony. She was a devoted Catholic and member of the Legion of Mary at Saint Gabriel’s church after having taught there for several years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, to whom she was very devoted. Receiving artwork from her grandchildren and attending recitals of her grandchildren were especially enjoyable to her. The Zanoni family is grateful for the exceptional hospice care provided to her by Paramount Senior Living at South Hills.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:45.
