Obituary For Irene D. Lankes

March 22, 1922 - March 28, 2015

Lankes, Irene D. (Donaldson), age 94, on Monday, March 28, 2016 of Baldwin. Wife of the late Frank Lankes, Sr.; beloved mother of Don (Janet) Donaldson, Frank, Jr. (Kelly) Lankes, Kurt (Beverly) Lankes and the late David Donaldson; sister of the late Bill, Bernie, Steve and Herb Held; grandmother of seven; great-grandmother of eight. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Irene was a trailblazer and entrepreneur. She was the owner and operator of two beauty salons in CA and Pittsburgh. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Friday morning at 9:45. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Sylvester Church at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh, 451 44th Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201.

    Irene was a wonderful friend and boss. She gave me a start back in the early 70's.. I'll never forget her and her kindness! Hopefully resting in peace... ❤️

    Irene - what can I say - I've known her as long as she's been at Atria Senior Living. A pistol I tell you. Always well dressed & well groomed. Used to ask her who did your hair this morning and we would just talk; (no need for anyone to do my hair - I able & capable) Used to do hair in the younger days. I would just listen to her stories/experiences. Anyone who had a chance to meet her knew how wonderful she was, how it didn't matter who you were, she cared & would love you no-matter what. She touched my heart from the first time I met her and I know she's touching more hearts in heaven. She's an Angel and always will be. God Bless!!!     My husband was a very devoted son and loved his mother deeply. I pray Irene found peace in her heart after his passing.
