Obituary For Jacob "Ed" Dryer

May 4, 1919 - February 7, 2015

Dryer, Jacob "Ed", age 95, on Saturday, February 7, 2015 of Baldwin Boro.

Beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Grossman) Dryer; loving father of Pat Lombardi, Ruth Joyce, Ed (Sue) Dryer and Nancy (Pat) Santella; devoted grandfather of Kathy, Victor, Laura, Jim, Justin, Erich and Patrick; proud great-grandfather of eleven; brother of Charles Dryer of Texas and the late William, Harry Dryer and Margaret Stoebe. Son of the late William and Margaret (Robson) Dryer. Ed was a retired Boilermaker with Local 154, a WWII Navy veteran and A life member and past chief of the Baldwin Independent Fire Co. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Spencer United Methodist Church, Churchview and Spencer Avenues, Pittsburgh, PA 15227 or Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15243.

    Thoughts and prayers for Ed and his family. Not really knowing Ed at the time of my first fire I had the pleasure of working with him and he took me under his wing. Ed was an old school firefighter and one of the best I have ever seen. Ed was working on the roof and I was a young in shape 18 year old that struggled to try and keep up with him. Ever since that day Ed became one of ny role models as a firefighter and I tried my hardest to maintain the work ethic I seen from Ed that day. Not sure if he realized it or not but Ed left a huge impression on me that day that I would try to emulate the rest of my career. RIP Ed, thank you.
