Obituary For Jacqueline A. (Ferraro) Deramo

Jacqueline A. (Ferraro) Deramo, 86, died in her home in Baldwin Boro on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Jackie, as she is known to friends and family, was born on March 13, 1937, to Giacomo “Jake” Ferraro and Mary (Demme) Ferraro.

Jackie graduated from Carrick High School Class of 1954 and afterward earned a beautician’s license. She worked as a beautician and as an operator with Bell Telephone. She met her husband, Donald A. Deramo, at the Grove Dance Hall and they married on July 18, 1959, at St. Wendelin’s Church.

She was an active member of St. Albert the Great parish where she served on the Parish Council, and as a Eucharistic Minister, as well as volunteered with her husband at the church Bingo and summer Carnival for many years.

Jackie was known and loved by many as a funny, warm, and hospitable friend and neighbor who enjoyed cooking, baking, and sharing platters of Christmas cookies and loaves of Easter bread; porch sitting with neighbors; cheering on the Steelers (and Chiefs); and trying her luck at the Rivers Casino. She was a homemaker while raising her children and later worked as a pharmacy technician at Vitales Pharmacy.

Jackie is survived by her children, Michele Deramo of Blacksburg, Virginia, Donald Deramo (Alison Pascoe) of the North Hills; grandchildren Michael James-Deramo of Richmond and Vincent James-Deramo of Blacksburg, Virginia; Dominic Deramo, Rachel Webb, Parker Raymond Webb, and great-granddaughter Mana, all of Pittsburgh; and her adopted family Michele (Smith) Bell of Pittsburgh, and her husband, John Bell of Orlando, Florida, and their sons John Michael and James Bell. And, of course, countless friends, one of whom said, “She was one tough Calabrese!”

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald (d. January 12, 2012), and her son, Peter Anthony Deramo (d. February 12, 1976).

Family and friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, PA 15227 on Wednesday, March 6 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at which time a blessing service will be held.

Deepest sympathies on the passing of Jackie. I am related to the family through my father. I remember visiting her mother, our Aunt Mary, with my parents, Sam and Helen Coriale, when I was a child. Though I was much younger, I knew Jackie starting when she was a young adult. Unfortunately, with the passing of the older family generation, there hasn't been direct contact for many years. I have fond memories of our family interactions and her voice. She was a warm, lovely soul. God Bless! Janet Coriale Ritchie

Michele and Don, Your mother was kind, thoughtful and generous. I will always remember singing and playing my guitar on your porch with friends, and your Mom and Dad. I remember how she used to dance with your father and her delicious lemon cello cake! She has blessed many. God's peace to you and your families.
