Obituary For James O. Powney

December 7, 1928 - February 24, 2015

Powney, James O. "Jim" On Tuesday, February 24, 2015 of Whitehall.

Beloved husband of Marian B. Powney for 61 years; loving father of James A. (Susan) Powney and Cheryl (Richard) DePaolis; grandfather of Richard (Colleen) DePaolis, Capt. Danielle DePaolis of the U.S. Air Force, Angela DePaolis, Katherine Powney and Scott Powney. Jim was a teacher and guidance counselor in the Pittsburgh City School District and Keystone Oaks. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers during WW II. After his retirement, Jim volunteered ( for 20 plus years) for the Brentwood Meals-on-Wheels. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227, Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Friday at 10:00 am. If desired, family suggests contributions to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 4048 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227 or Brentwood Meals-on-Wheels, 3725 Brownsville Road Pittsburgh, PA 15227.

    Marian, Jim and Cheryl, and family, I was so sorry to hear about Jim, my love to all of you and prayers for you and your family. My brother Ted was also particularly close to Jim and Marian but unfortunately preceded Jim. My best to all of you and when they say time heals all, it helps but you never forget.
