Obituary For James Takach

September 24, 1942 - April 23, 2017

TAKACH JAMES "JIM" or "TACK", age 74, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away on April 23, 2017 after a painful struggle with cancer, which he handled with the usual grace, strength, and optimism that characterized him and made every day of his life a blessing to those who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carole Yagello Takach. He was born in Greenfield to the late Michael M. Takach and Emma Ryabik Takach. He is also predeceased by a sister, Betty Ann Takach Columbus (John), and brother, Michael A. Takach (Irma.) He is survived by in-laws from the Lawry and Yagello families, and loyal friends. Jim spent his entire career at PPG Industries. His position was Financial Manager. He also worked in Internal Auditing, installed computer systems, and was regarded as a top recruiter of international business graduate students. Always an avid sportsman, Jim grew up in Brentwood where he was Co-Captain of the football team, Captain of the track team, and President of the Varsity Letterman's Club. He and his wife Carole met at Brentwood High, becoming that traditional team of halfback and cheerleader. Jim was a graduate of Penn State University, where he belonged to Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity and became a lifelong fan of Joe Paterno's football teams and philosophy of "success with honor." He received a BS in Business Administration, then attended graduate school at West Virginia University, earning an MBA. He was a member of South Hills Country Club, where he golfed twice-weekly (year-round if possible) enjoying the company of fellow linksmen right along with the game. No visitation is planned, but friends are welcome at the funeral service on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. at John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road in Brentwood.

Dear Carole, My heart aches for you. Will be there in the am. Tack was truly a gentleman, but most important, he was "your gentleman". He was truly your right hand, but The Lord will give you strength to get on with this wonderful life we enjoy with grace. Love & prayers, Stephanie Kosko Paul

Although our feathers are ruffled, please know how deeply saddened I am to learn of Tack's passing. I can't begin to imagine the depth of your pain after so many years of love and companionship. I will remember Jim as mannerly when many were roudy, as poised when many were insecure, as a sportsman when many were simply jocks, as steady when many were erratic. May God bless and keep him and comfort you in the days to come.
