Obituary For Jane Campbell Goodale

Age 96, of Pittsburgh, PA, formerly of Windsor, CT, passed away on February 9 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She is predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Bruce Goodale. Bruce and Jane were residents of Windsor, CT for 51 years, and moved to Pittsburgh in 2012.

Jane was born on October 18, 1927 in Troy, NY, the daughter of the late Sidney and Irene (Hannah) Campbell. She attended Russell Sage College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Merchandising. Later in life she put those skills to use, working as Assistant Manager at the Hartford Hospital Auxiliary Store and as Manager at the Duncaster Retirement Community Store.

Her college yearbook described Jane as “A Thimbleful of TNT with a Bang”, and she never stopped. She was a tireless volunteer with the Windsor Historical Society, the Friends of Northwest Park, and the Rotary Club of Windsor (where she was named a Paul Harris Fellow), and served as a volunteer and board member for the Windsor Public Library, the Hartford Symphony Auxiliary and the Larrabee Fund of Greater Hartford. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Windsor, where she served on countless committees, including two pastoral search committees. Finally, she was the driving force behind the creation of the SummerWind Performing Arts Center in Windsor, and was proud to get her first business card, at the age of 73, with the title of “Founder & Board Member”.

Jane leaves her children Christopher Goodale of South Yarmouth, MA, Stephen Goodale of Mission Viejo, CA, Anne Goodale Allen (Steven) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Andrew Goodale (Cheryl Cummins) of Fernandina Beach, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jennifer Goodale Botchway (Charles), Reed Goodale, Kelley Goodale, Laura Kemerer Byington (Dustin), and Adam Kemerer (Maggie Tennis), her great-grandchildren Aden, Findley, and Miles Botchway, and her sister-in-law Jeanne Campbell (Jack Cowling). Jane will also be greatly missed by Lillian LaFrance and Dana Pierson. Jane is predeceased by her sister Georgiana Campbell, her brother Robert Campbell, and her daughter-in-law Joanne Goodale.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Providence Point for the care and compassion that they showed to Jane over the years. A memorial service will be held in Windsor, CT at a later time, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. PO Box 5021, Hagerstown, MD 21741. Arrangements handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227.

Jane and Bruce welcomed me into the family with open arms, and we shared many wonderful times, from vacations to holidays and family reunions, and ultimately sharing time with them in their beloved town of Windsor. I will remember them with love, always in my heart. Sylvia Goodale

Jane was an amazing woman! I admired her so much for all her accomplishments as a wife, mother and person in her own right. But most of all for her smile and laugh!

I volunteered with Jane at SummerWind.! She was a dynamic force, and contributed more than most to that endeavor! Bruce and Jane made a great couple, and I was happy for their friendship. May they R.I.P.
