Kalkstein, Janet M., age 78, beloved mother of August J. III (Debra); cherished grandmother of A.J., was carried by the angels to God's loving arms on June 8, 2017. Janet worked for Trans-World Airlines for 37 years, retiring to her Baldwin home in 1998. She was an avid traveler and always had a meal at the ready for anyone who stopped by. Janet leaves behind a sister, Virginia (John) Mazzarini; two nieces, Cary McGee and Patricia Carney; nephew Timothy Mazzarini; grandnephew Ryan Carney; grandniece Amanda Paciorkowski; grandnephews Robbie, Drew and Craig Payne; great-grandnieces Bailey and Kira Payne, great-grandniece Audrey Paciorkowski and great-grandnephew Cameron Payne. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Raymond "Bill" and Olga Murray, as well as the love of her life, August J. Kalkstein II. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning in Stewart Avenue Lutheran Church at 11 a.m.
