Obituary For Jean M. Lang

Jean Mary Lang, affectionately known as “Aunt Jeannie,” of Pittsburgh, PA, peacefully entered the kingdom of our heavenly father on August 6, 2025, at the age of 92.

Born in Pittsburgh PA, July 9, 1933, raised in the Esplen neighborhood, Jean was the beloved daughter of Nellie J. Viltrakis and Albert W. “TaTa” Lang. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Alan S. “Lanny” Lang and many dear lifelong friends whose bonds with her stood the test of time.

She is survived by her loving brother and devoted caretaker, Albert D. Lang, her sister Lois A. Lang, and her nieces Dianne L. (Troy) Benedict, Tammy (Brad) Skinner, Lara Lang and Dana Lang, all of whom adored her deeply and carry forward the joyful memories she gave them.

Jean lived her life with grace, humility, and a warm heart. She worked for many years at Alcoa in Pittsburgh and was admired for her dedication and work ethic.

Jean had a zest for life that shone through in all her passions. An accomplished figure skater and ice dancer, she took lessons for decades and continued to glide across the ice well into her 70s, competing in senior-level amateur events. Her artistic talents included playing piano, painting and making stained glass art of which the family holds dear these personal and cherished pieces. She shared a love of billiards and archery with her brother Lanny and participated in local leagues and events.

But to her nieces, Aunt Jeannie was magic. She filled their childhood with unforgettable traditions - outings to the Pittsburgh Aviary, hunting for “dress-up” purses at garage sales, and always finishing with a trip to Winky’s for a burger. Every spring brought the beloved Easter shopping trip with Aunt Jeannie and Grandma Nellie, where new bonnets and shoes were selected with care and joy.

Aunt Jeannie had a signature way of saying goodbye - “Tootles!” - a word that brought laughter and smiles to the little girls she loved so dearly. That playful spirit and deep affection made her not just an aunt, but a treasured guide, friend, and memory-maker. Tootles, Aunt Jeannie. We love you. And we always will. Xoxo.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a blessing service at 12:00 p.m. Jean will be laid to rest beside her parents and beloved brother, Lanny, at their family plot in McKeesport & Versailles Cemetery, 1608 5th Ave, McKeesport, PA 15132.

It was such an honor and pleasure having Jean as part of our Heritage Manor family for the past three and a half years. I will always have fond memories of her helping to decorate the Christmas tree in the lobby, which was her favorite. She was a speedy Gonzolez in that wheel chair of hers, and when she would pass the front desk, I would call out to her to "slow down, you're going to get a speeding ticket!", then we would laugh together. It was always our favorite "running" joke. She was an inspiration to me with her will and determination, I will miss her companionship greatly. Tootles, Jean. Tootles!
