Remark Sr., John Andrew Age 84, of Brentwood, was taken into God's Arms on January 1, 2022. He was the devoted and loving husband of Thelma Jean Remark, the love of his life for over 63 years; cherished father of Monica (David) Tompkins of Jefferson Hills, John (Kathleen) Remark, Jr. of Mt. Lebanon and Jeffrey (Ruthanne) Remark of South Park; loving grandfather of Timothy (Shea) Tompkins and Elizabeth, Jack, Jeffrey, Jr. and Jonathan Remark; great grandfather of three; brother of Mary Therese "Gorey" (the late Robert) Doran. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was hired by Port Authority in 1964. He became Amalgamated Transit Local 85 Financial Secretary Officer, a position he served for 22 years, where he was a staunch fighter for worker's wages, improved working conditions and health care and pension benefits that improved thousands of union member's lives. Following his retirement, he was employed by the International ATU in Washington D.C. John was a devout Catholic and Oblate of St. Benedict member, attending yearly retreats at St. Vincent College over the span of 40 years. He was an usher and Eucharistic Minister at St. Sylvester Church for many years, volunteered at Kane Hospital as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and Knights of Columbus. John was also a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers season ticket holder and enjoyed attending Penguin games as well with family. He was a friend to all and helped everyone during his life. Thank you for the wonderful memories, laughter, generosity, support and guidance. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Wednesday 2-8 pm. Funeral prayer on Thursday morning at 9:45. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Sylvester Church at 10:30 am.
