Obituary For John Brown Coldsmith

Age 85, of Scott Township, joined his Lord and Savior in Heaven on Thursday, September 5, 2024, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

John was born on August 23, 1939, in Mt. Pleasant to the late John C. and Betty B. Coldsmith and is predeceased by two sisters, Betsy (Mac) McFarland and Bonnie Downs. John was a devout Christian, having served as an elder at his church and with ministries such as Prison Fellowship. His family is relieved to know he is at peace in his eternal home.

John is survived by his wife, Dee, the love of his life in this world and the next. Dee’s devotion to her husband was unwavering throughout their nearly 44 years of marriage. She was his advocate, his rock, and his light, even in the darkest times. He is also survived by his three children: Jennifer (Brett) Russell, Rebekah (Ryan) Crawford, and Christopher (Adrienne) Coldsmith; ten grandchildren: Samuel, Jacob (Krista), Sophia, Joshua, Matthew, Vivian, Mason, Stella, Jack, and Anna; as well as several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

John was a successful businessman, having founded a company that thrived for 50 years under his ownership and earned him many awards as a salesman. John was a skier, a runner, and, most importantly, a father. He loved taking his kids-and eventually his grandkids-to Ohiopyle to play on the rock slides or to the old Pittsburgh Athletic Association for a game of bowling. John loved his country, his family, and his red Corvette. When God heard The Beach Boys on the radio and saw a man in a red hat and leather jacket to match, He knew it was John arriving at His gates. When John looks down from there, he will see a wife who adores him, a family inspired by him, and a world made better because of him.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 2-6 p.m. Funeral service on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Ruthfred Lutheran Church, 3401 South Park Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 2835 E Carson Street, Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.

Subject: Gratitude for Your Support and Assistance To Mr. Coldsmith, I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering support and assistance you have extended to me over the years. As a teenager navigating through challenging circumstances, I found myself in foster care due to unfortunate circumstances of abuse. However, it was during this tumultuous period that I found solace and strength in my faith, which eventually led me to meeting you. Our initial encounter at the soldiers and sailors Hall in Oakland was serendipitous, but little did I know that it would mark the beginning of a life-changing journey. Your kindness and willingness to extend a helping hand when I needed it most have left an indelible mark on my life. Through your generosity and support, I was able to leave the shelter and pursue my high school education, eventually earning my diploma. Your assistance did not stop there, as you continued to guide and mentor me, enabling me to build a better life for myself and my family. I am forever grateful for the role you have played in my life. Your selfless acts of kindness have not gone unnoticed, and I consider myself truly blessed to have you as a mentor and friend. Thank you once again for everything you have done for me. Your support has been instrumental in shaping the person I am today, and I will always hold you in the highest regard. Thomas A Moor
