Age 75, on Monday, September 27, 2021, of Whitehall. Beloved husband of 52 years to Lorraine (Cristello); loving father of Thomas R. (Hollie) and John R. Dowling, Jr.; proud Pap Pap of Caroline Ashley and Nolan John Dowling; son of the late Thomas R. and Bernice; brother of the late William Dowling and Mary Margaret Potter. Also survived by nieces and nephews. John grew up in Washington D.C., was a proud US Army Big Red 1 Combat Engineer serving in Vietnam from 1966-1967. He was a steel worker at Shenango Incorporated retiring after 27 years. John loved his retirement and enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren and friends. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 from 2-8 p.m. where a blessing service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project, 600 River Avenue, Suite 400, Attn: Donor Services, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
