Obituary For John William Toperzer

August 29, 1932 - April 19, 2015

Toperzer, John W.

Age 82, of Mt. Lebanon, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, April 19, 2015, transferred to the church triumphant. Beloved husband of the late Rosalie Toperzer; previous husband and dear friend of Bette Anderson; father of Joy Toperzer and John Toperzer, Jr., brother of Walter (the late Betty) Toperzer, Henry (Julie) Toperzer, Sally (Mark) Bjerke and the late Betty (Fred) Longenecker. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. John graduated from Munhall High School and Carnegie Tech. He was a Korean Era Veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired engineer from Bayer Corporation. John was a long-time member of the Concordia Lutheran Church where he served as President and Elder, was a member of the choir and also a Sunday School teacher. He was former president of Pittsburgh Area Lutheran Ministries and past board member of Concordia Lutheran Ministries. John was also a proud Pittsburgh Pirate Season ticket holder. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 noon at Concordia Lutheran Church.

    I am very sorry to hear of John's passing. I will miss him visiting me at my section at PNC Park. I looked forward to his visits and our friendly and upbeat conversations. He always had a smile on his face. My sympathies go out to all of his family members and his friends.

    I was sorry to hear of John's passing. I worked with John for many years back in the "Mobay" - Engineering Days. I always found it a pleasure to talk with him. Deepest sympathy to the family.

    I am sorry to read John has passed. He was my supervisor in the late seventies at Mobay. I remember John as a very good and moral person. I have often thought of John and mentioned him to people at Bayer who also knew him.
