Obituary For Joseph John Kowalski

April 25, 1917 - June 8, 2015

Kowalski, Joseph, age 98, of Baldwin Borough, formerly of South Side, on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Concordia of Franklin Park. Joe is survived by his daughter, Janet J. (Bob) Mitchell and son, John J. Kowalski; his grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Mitchell, Rebecca Mitchell, and Stephen, Todd, Maria, and Matthew Kowalski; his siblings, Frances Shiry, Helen (Honey) Young, and Francis (Sonny) Kowalski; and, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Julia (Maschak) Kowalski; his parents, Frank and Stella Kowalski; his siblings, Casimir Kowalski, Stella Krempasky, Stephen Kowalski, and Mary Hmel; and, several nieces and nephews. Joe was a dedicated family man and good friend who will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. He was also a US Army veteran of World War II, having served in five European campaigns with the 173rd Field Artillery Group, XV Corps. Joe retired from LTV Steel (formerly Jones and Laughlin) after 46 years of service. He was a member of the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR), Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a long-time parishioner of St. Albert the Great Church in Baldwin. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:15.
