Obituary For Kenneth E. Lockhart

February 22, 1951 - September 10, 2016

Lockhart, Kenneth E. Age 65, on Saturday, September 10, 2016, of Brentwood.

Ken dedicated his life to public service. Never putting himself first, Ken is a former Mayor of Brentwood and prior to that, he served Brentwood as a member of council. He was a lifetime member of Brentwood Volunteer Fire Company, service since 1974, and one of the founding members of Brentwood EMS. Ken spearheaded the "Brentwood Cares" Organization; an organization that was responsible for sending care packages to military members serving overseas. He had the utmost respect for our nation's military veterans, loved the American Flag, and enjoyed collecting anything to do with bald eagles. In 2005, Ken was honored by the Brentwood VFW Post 1810 as the " Man of the Year". In 2006, he was recognized for his lifetime of service, by former Lt. Governor Catherine Baker Noll, in saying; from nurse to firefighter to EMT, to elected official, examples of your commitment to service seem to know no bounds. Your sacrifice is generous: helping children, the elderly, military personnel and ordinary citizens. You undoubtedly exemplify the words of George Bernard Shaw who said; "I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can". As the Man of the Year, every year, to his family; he enjoyed over 43 years of marriage and countless memories as the husband and "rock" to Susan (Morrell) Lockhart. In his spare time, Ken enjoyed fishing, golfing and being "pup-pup". In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by two sons; Ken (Dawn) Lockhart, Jr., of Lancaster, and Kevin (Debbie) Lockhart, of Brentwood, a daughter; Kelly (Matt) Wichelmann, of Brentwood, a brother; Bill (Janet) Lockhart, of Florida, a sister; Cyndie (Ed) Hart, of Pittsburgh, and ten grandchildren; Andrew, Abigail, Grant, Jessica, Tiffany, Austin, Spencer, Jake, Marissa, and Aubrey. Ken was predeceased in death by his parents William and Margaret Lockhart. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Wednesday from 2 pm until time of prayer service at 7:30 pm.. Interment will be private. If desired, family suggests contributions to Brentwood VFD, 3433 Brownsville Rd., Pgh., PA, 15227 or Brentwood EMS, 3624 Brownsville Rd., Pgh., PA 15227.
