October 31, 1943 - May 4, 2014

Hock, Kenneth W.

Age 70, on Sunday, May 4, 2014, a life-long resident of Whitehall.

Loving husband of 48 years to Marcie (Patton); beloved father of Tammy (Steve) Anthos and Fred (Colleen) Hock; cherished grandfather of Jeremy and Makenna Anthos and Freddie and Conrad Hock; brother of Dan (Sandy) Hock and the late Jerry Hock; uncle of Taira (Nick) Girasek, Heather (Matt) Kohler, Vikki (Mike) Rapp and Jerry Hock, Jr.

Ken worked for 40 years with the Whitehall Borough road crew, retiring in 2006 to enjoy his life with his family and friends. He was the guy everybody knew driving around in the Whitehall Boro truck, he always had stories to tell of his friends and co-workers over the years. Kenny will always be remembered as a very generous man, he would do anything for anybody in need. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up. His flower and vegetable gardens were his pride and joy. Chatting it up with friends over a cold beer always brought a big smile to his face.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral prayer on Friday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m.

    Dear Mrs. Hock, My name is Dave Bishoff, and I was one of the summer kids on the road crew back in 1970, 1971, and 1972, now some 40+ years ago. At that time, Ken was the youngest of the regular guys on the crew, and he always went out of his way to show me the ropes, from teaching me how to drive the truck in the Spitler School parking lot, to letting me earn a little extra money on the weekends by helping him and Andy Kapolka cut down trees, or to convincing Jerry to serve me my first beer and a cannibal sandwich down at the tavern even though I might have been a few months shy of my 21st birthday........ But most of all, I remember his sense of humor! There was never a dull moment either out on the road or back in the garage when Kenny was in high gear. Whether it was getting on Rudy about his weight, or teasing one of us kids about being "long-haired hippies," he kept the whole gang laughing and spirits high, and while grown men are sometimes reluctant to admit such things, he was truly well-loved by all. I just learned of Kenny's passing this evening from my sister-in-law, who still lives in Whitehall and just arrived at our home here in Ohio for a visit. I regret that I was unable to attend the services, but I wanted to offer my sincere condolences for your loss. My summers on the road crew were some of happiest times of my life, and Ken was a big part of making that so. He was one great guy...... Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.     Dear Marcie, Tammy and Freddie, We are so sorry to hear this very sad news. We spent time with Kenny this Fall and of course in January, and for that we are grateful. I never thought I would be writing these words now. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Carl and Marlynne
