LaVerne Andrews Oatman

Beloved mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 101. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 4, 1924, LaVerne lived a life rich in love, faith, and devotion to family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Thomas Andrews, with whom she shared 42 years of marriage, and her second husband, Bruce Oatman, her beloved companion of 18 years. She also mourned the losses of her son John “Jackie” and grandsons Joey and Josh, who now welcome her home in eternal peace. LaVerne is survived by her daughters Janet, Joyce and Jeanne; her stepdaughter Lorraine; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren whom she loved deeply. After years of working and raising her family, LaVerne moved to Florida, where she embraced warm weather, time for baking and crafting, and a slower, more peaceful pace. Later, she relocated to Houston to be closer to family. Though she missed her Florida sunshine, she made the most of her time in Texas enjoying lively Bingo games and connections with new friends. LaVerne’s deep Christian faith was the anchor of her life. Her strength and compassion were constants to those who knew and loved her. The family extends heartfelt thanks to granddaughter Chrissy “Cree” for her daily companionship and morning breakfasts, and to daughter Janet, whose loving care and presence made each day better. LaVerne will be remembered for her grace, strength, and love. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to be part of her remarkable journey. Family and friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood, PA 15227, Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral prayer will be held Wednesday morning at 9:15, followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Germaine Church at 10:00 am.
