July 28, 1927 - February 24, 2014

Sarcone, Lena R.

Age 86, on Monday, February 24, 2014, originally from Hazelwood, resident of Whitehall Boro for the past 60 years.

Beloved wife of the late Joseph M. Sarcone; loving mother of David (Linda), Joe (Lynn Zender), Chris (Randy) McKenzie and Jeanmarie (Paul) McCann; proud grandmother of Mark, Helena, Lia and the late John. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Saturday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Gabriel Church Awareness Fund, 5200 Greenridge Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15236 or Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15237.

    We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the Sarcone family on their loss. Lena's husband, Joe, volunteered with me at Soldier's & Sailor's in Oakland and we got to know Lena then.     My heart goes out to my best friend Jean marie and her family. I am so sorry about your loss. Your mom was so strong through her battle with cancer. She is an inspiration for all with the pain she endeared through life with failing joints as well. I am so proud to have known her and will cherish the angels she left me to watch over and spread her sweetness and mother-like qualities. Rest in peace Lena and know you will be missed very very much.

    Dear David, Chris, Joe And Jeanmarie Knowing your lovely Mother these past 26 years was a joy for us! She lit up a room with her warmth and kindness toward all present. She and Joe worked hard raised a family and had such dignity and style! The time she took to keep in touch with both of our Mothers when we left Pittsburgh, gave us insight to just what a thoughtful person she was.     Dear Lena, I only met you a handful of times, but my memory of you was that of a gracious, loving woman who was not only kind and funny but a great Italian cook.
