 M. Stuart Emry, of South Park, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 surrounded by family on Thursday, April 14, 2022.   Beloved husband of the late Susan C. Emry; loving father of Betsy Emry (John) Benson, Jennifer Susan (Matt) Goga and the late Michael Stuart Emry; grandfather of Nicholas Goga, Dan Goga, Michael Goga, and Annie Benson; son of the late Marion and Hazel (Thornburg) Emry; brother of the late Lucy Emry Hack.  He was born in Limington, Maine in 1934.  After the tragic death of his father in 1939, his mother moved the family to Indiana, where he graduated from University High School and Indiana University, both in Bloomington, Indiana.  After college, he served as Lieutenant and Rifle Platoon Leader for the U.S. Army in Germany.  After an honorable discharge, he worked in Chicago, where he met and married Susan in 1960.  He accepted a transfer to Pittsburgh in 1965, settled in the South Hills and raised a family.  A few years after moving to Pittsburgh, Stu took a risk and decided to pursue a career in radio and TV broadcasting.  Over a span of 30-plus years, he covered all the important news of the day, ranging from chemical spills and train derailments to high-profile murder trials and political scandals.  He interviewed news makers ranging from U.S. presidents to ordinary citizens for WTAE-TV and KDKA-TV.  He won awards for his work, which included the nuclear plant disaster at Three Mile Island.  Stu loved the sports teams in his adopted hometown as well as sailing, British sports cars and fly fishing.  After the death of his wife in 2016, he spent the final years of his life enjoying time with his family, watching Jeopardy, mastering Uber travel and his iPhone.  Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral  Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Monday, April 18, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. at The Whitehall House.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
