Age 84, of Whitehall, Tig passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 25, 2025 with her husband present. During the previous day, her entire family had gathered during which love was conveyed by numerous personal messages accompanied by hugs. Daughter of the late Lillian and Authur Wahl. Husband (39 years) E. Richard Williams; beloved mother of Diane (Tiggie) Mauroni (Bill) and Juliette Danae Schenk (Jim, sons Matteson and Mason DeBaise) and cherished Donie to Lydia Rose Mauroni and Gianna Bella Mauroni. As the matriarch of her family, the orientation that characterized Tig’s journey through life could be described as one of compassion and kindness. Her profound sense of inquisitiveness provided the foundation for her career as an educator. That her daughters and granddaughters excelled academically is testimony to the impact she had on their respective lives. Rosanne Cash, in her book entitled Composed, made the following statement when delivering her Eulogy for her step-mother, June Carter Cash; “She did not give birth to me, but she helped me give birth to my future.” Those words convey the sentiment resulting from years of care and nurturing for Tig’s beloved granddaughters, Lydia and Gianna. Throughout their early childhood they slept over countless Friday nights at our home during which Tig engaged them in reading and in various educational activities; she was, indeed, instrumental in helping them give births to their respective futures. I shared this quote / sentiment with her years ago and her eyes watered; it brought her such comfort to know that her investment in the lives of her granddaughters was recognized. During the final day before she started to fade, she reflected on her daughters, Tiggie and Julie, and how their needs throughout their lives served as basis in which her priorities were focused. Aside from her family, it was her love of books, bridge and Jeopardy that provided the bouquet of life which ultimately served to enriched the lives of anyone who had the opportunity to say that Tig was their friend. In the writing of this obituary, I am reminded of what Jane Hirshfield had written in her book entitled Nine Gates: Entering the Mind of Poetry. Tig remains part of the living tissue which comprises the backbone of this beloved country. It is in that vein that she continues to contribute to the “fabric that both gives meaning to and is made meaningful by the part of it we are.” Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 3-6 p.m. Contact Us to have your link and message added here. Please fill out the form below. Obituary For Marilyn "Tig" Williams
“We peer into the new poem with the old hope: that we might find
there a few words to illumine more widely our passage through the
dark woods and brightly lit cities of the fleeting, time-bound world.
And the art of poetry remains a daughter of Remembrance—of our
wish to feel joined to some fabric that both gives meaning to and is
made meaningful by the part of it we are.”
A voracious reader, she was a friend of Whitehall Library and a strong supporter of Meals on Wheels. Photos & Video
