Obituary For Mary E. (Briggs) Joint

Age 81, of Whitehall, formerly of Baldwin and Jefferson Hills, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026.

Beloved wife of 62 years to Patrick L. Joint; loving mom of Angie (Jim) Kweder and Shawn (Annie Gonzales) Joint; proud grandma of Jordan and Lauren Kweder; sister of the late Arlene Wellhausen and Diane Pickl; sister-in-law of Maurice (Clare) Joint. Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Mary lived a life filled with love, adventure, laughter, and special connections. She met her husband, Pat, when they were teenagers, and the two were married the day after she turned 19 in 1963, beginning an exciting and happy life together.

After their wedding, Mary and Pat moved to Nashville, TN, while Pat was stationed in the Air Force. During that time, Mary worked for National Life Insurance. After a short stay in the South, they returned to Pittsburgh, where Mary worked as an Administrative Assistant, including more than 20 years at Magee Women’s Hospital and Target.

Mary valued her education and earned her Associate Degree from Robert Morris College. After years of being home with her kids and returning to the workforce, she decided to go back to school. She amazed her children who were in college at the same time by earning better grades than them - and in 1995 graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Business Management from Point Park University.

Mary loved to travel and never passed up an adventure. She visited over 15 countries, as far as Asia Pacific, enjoyed many cruises, and adored the beach, especially Aruba, her favorite. Whether parasailing, snorkeling, riding camels, taking balloon rides, boating, or enjoying great food and a good glass of wine, she embraced every experience with enthusiasm.

She also loved being at home, where she delighted in entertaining, cooking delicious meals, decorating cakes and cookies, doing needlepoint, and matting photos with Pat. There was a lot of activity going on in her home.

Mary loved spending time with her friends, whether they were her “lunch bunch”, card club, her church book club, the Red Hat Society or at the Benedum watching or ushering the shows.

Most of all, Mary loved being with her family. Time spent with her children and grandchildren, doing anything that brought them together, was what mattered most to her.

With heartfelt appreciation, the family thanks the devoted caregivers – affectionately known as Mary’s “angels” – for their compassion, gentle presence and exceptional care.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Resurrection Parish at St. Thomas More Church, Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. Everyone please meet at the church.
