Obituary For Mary Magdalene (Novotny) Tripson

Age 96, of Baldwin Borough, formerly of Whitehall Borough and Canonsburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Harry Alexander Tripson. She is the mother of Christine (Jim) Tripson, John (Sally) Tripson, and George (Lauren) Tripson; cherished grandmother of Eric Tripson, Jamie (Sean) Griffith, Julie Tripson Read, Amy Tripson and Mark Tripson; and great-grandmother of Carson Griffith. She is also survived by her older sister, Irene Kirby, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friend and confidant, Sarah Altavilla. Mary attended Nursing School at Canonsburg Hospital where she worked prior to returning to school to earn her certification as a Nurse Anesthetist at Montefiore Hospital. Her career also included Columbia Hospital and after retirement she was lured back to the OR at Podiatry Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mary loved talking by phone to family, especially her grandchildren. She was a great cook and baker with highlights of the best fried chicken and potato salad, as well as nut roll, apple pie and holiday cookie baking. She made beautiful crewel work, loved ice cream, and enjoyed Sunday afternoon road trips, being outdoors and in the garden.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Saturday morning at 9:45. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Albert the Great Church at 10:30 a.m.
