Obituary For Maureen Lee (Swisher) Moog

Age 86, of Whitehall, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. Born and raised in Pittsburgh's South Side. Maureen lived most of her life in Whitehall where she created a home filled with laughter, creativity, and love.

Married the day after she turned 18, she was the beloved wife of Ronald A. Moog for 68 wonderful years; devoted mother of Ronald P. (Tina), Michael J. (Fran), and Amy B. (Paul) Hess; cherished grandmother of Lee Moog (Amber Gunnels), Jay Moog (Megan Coffman), Jacqueline (Art) Perri, Andy (Alexis) Moog, Jeremy Hess; adoring great-grandmother of Bodie and Piper Moog. She is also survived by her brother, Sherman (Mary Ann) Swisher, and her sister, Michele (the late Robert) Gosetti. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman C. and Catherine Swisher, and brother, Richard Swisher.

A 1956 graduate of Baldwin High School, Maureen’s life was full of kindness, creativity and faith. She was an active member of the Christian Mothers at St Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Parish, where she gave her time and heart to the Church and community.

Maureen’s artistic spirit shone through her love of painting and stained-glass projects. In her 50’s, she discovered a new passion- horses - and it quickly became one of her greatest joys. One of her proudest moments was riding her horse, Doughboi, in the Indianapolis 500 parade.

Maureen worked for Fisher Scientific right out of high school, then moved on to Instruments Society of America. She also was a secretary for St Norbert’s School until 1980 when she and Ron founded R.A. Moog and Associates. She also served as a secretary for The Traffic and Transportation Association of Pittsburgh (The T&TA).

Those who knew Maureen will remember her quick wit and her ability to make anyone smile. Her sense of humor, love for her family, and zest for life touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

We are truly blessed to have had her in our lives, and even though our hearts ache, they should also smile, because she was here once, and that means she’s always here, tucked safely inside, where good-bye’s can’t reach.

Friends will be received at John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, PA 15227 on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 2-6 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Monday morning at 11:15. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 12:00 p.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to Washington Co. Humane Society, 1527 PA-136, Eighty-Four, PA 15330.

Maureen was one of a kind. A pleasure to be around. Our luncheon were always a great memory, especially when the waiter would ask what we wanted to drink. Her response was always, " bourbon please". Her smile would light up a room. A true lady. Rest in peace, my friend.
