Obituary For Michael Albert Makstutis

March 12, 1952 - September 17, 2018

Makstutis, Michael Albert (1952-2018)

After a courageous battle with cancer, Mike passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2018 with his family at his bedside. Mike was born March 12, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY to Albert & Dorothy Makstutis. He resided in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended CCAC where he pursued a degree in commercial art. Mike served honorably in the U.S. Air force from 1971-1977. Yogi, as he was known to his coworkers, worked for American Airlines (formerly U.S. Air) for 36 years, retiring in December 2017. Mike is survived by his wife Marlene (Lorkowski) Makstutis and his former spouse, Sally Makstutis and their two children Katy (Armagh) Oceguera and Pete (Nicole Masuscci) Makstutis. He is also survived by his two sisters, Linda Lasick and Patty (Jeff) Rager, and his stepsons, Jay, Chris & JC Lorkowski. He was a proud Grampy to his grandchildren, Elias & Micah Oceguera, Camden Makstutis, Ethan Lorkowski & Alivia Molinaro. Mike was a much loved husband, father, grampy, son, brother, friend & coworker. He lived his life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He enjoyed music and traveling but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He fought a good fight and maintained his incredible sense of humor and style. He will be dearly missed. Family, friends and others Mike touched are invited to reminisce, grieve, support each other, and, of course, just chat at John F. Slater Funeral Home, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Prayer and military honors will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the John F. Slater Funeral Home. If desired, in lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank or a charity of your choosing.

Mr. & Mrs. Makstutis & family, seems just like last week we all were running around on Moore Ave. being kids. I know I hadn't been in touch with Mike for many years, but many great memories still linger. We will be out of town for the rest of the week & sadly will miss the service. So sorry for your loss. We will miss Grampy so much! I promise Ethan will always know what a great human being and grampy Mike was to him. I am so grateful I got to spend a few hours with Mike and ask him all the questions I had. He helped me get ready for fatherhood and if I do half the job he did, I will consider myself blessed! Rest in peace Grampy, till we meet up again!
