Obituary For Nick Capozzi

Age 97, was a lifelong Pittsburgh resident. The youngest boy of nine children, he was raised in the Lower Hill, 1227 Gilmore Way.

As a boy, he walked his father to an Italian Club that helped bring fellow Italian immigrants to the U.S. His family had a cat, “a big turtle,” and Italian borders. From the sound of it, he spent a good amount of his youth loafing and running a hustle in front of the Embassy Restaurant on the corner of 7th and Grant. He was a seaman in the Navy for the end of WWII and returned home to watch his neighborhood leveled for development.

An electrician for over 40 years, he woke daily at 6 a.m. so there was time to argue in the office before heading to the job site. He was the chauffer to me and my 5 high school friends, asking one question each weekend, “Is the girl that lives really far coming?” She always was. Nicholas said he jumped from his recliner when I called from college to ask him to bring my dorm McDonalds. He spent the last thirteen years with Josh and me, apparently as our gallery curator. He was notorious for telling me, “You can’t do that,” only to help do everything I ever asked.

“Listen!” Here’s to a mammone, an amazing father and, mostly, my buddy. He is survived by me, Nicole (Joshua Hogan) Capozzi, my brother Nicholas (Kristin) Capozzi and two grandchildren, Louisa and Autumn Capozzi. Funeral services are being held privately by the family.

So my father's best friend and partner, my god father for real. My best memory is his big big smile and his laughing. He definitely loved life. So so sorry we didn't get to say goodbye to each other. Hustle in the sky Nick, love you.
