May 4, 1931 - November 18, 2015 Parthenia D. Papuga (Aunt Parthy) Born May 4, 1931 passed away quietly on November 18, 2015. She was the youngest of 12 children born to Mary Barbara Janitor Papuga and George Vincent Papuga of Jane Street, Southside. Her siblings preceding her to the pearly gates are: Emory, George, Joseph, Hildagarde, Margo, and John Papuga, Mary Bennet, Martha Stavros, Elizabeth Rodgers, and Clara McDonnell. Parthy is survived by one sister, Matilda Larson, and her sister-in-law Kay Papuga. She also has 26 nieces and nephews and too many great and grand nieces and nephews to count. Parthy was a lifelong teacher and continued her love for teaching even into retirement. After graduating from The University of Houston she spent her entire teaching career in Houston Texas. Parthy loved being involved, and as coach of the Carlton Cadettes flag squad led her team to several national championships, marched and performed in well-known parades around the country, and received numerous letters of congratulations, including several from U.S. Congressman Albert Thomas and Doorkeeper "Fishbait" Miller. Parthy was an avid world traveler visiting many far off and remote lands even living in Japan for a year. St. Peter's Episcopal Church was a cornerstone in her life. As an active long time member she was involved with everything from teaching Sunday school, organizing and managing the annual flea market, participating with the bereavement group, to keeping the kitchen in order! Parthy's open friendliness, love of life, easy going manner, and "Do the Right Thing Attitude", will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held in St. Peter Episcopal Church, 4048 Brownsville Road, Brentwood on December 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice. December 11, 2019 Contact Us to have your link and message added here.
