Obituary For Ralph G. Wesling

Wesling, Ralph G.
Age 95, of Baldwin Borough passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024, of natural causes at Paramount Senior Living Center in Bethel Park. Ralph was born April 23, 1929 in Carrick, PA. He was the son of the late Oscar & Anna Wesling, brother to the late Oscar (Mary). Ralph was preceded in death by the love of his life of 65 years Claire (Fiedler).

Ralph attended St. Basil High School. While there he was advised by his choir teacher to “Go Play Basketball”, which he did and went on to be a star performer in the Pittsburgh All Catholic League. Before Ralph could accept a scholarship to Duquesne University he was drafted into the Korean War where he proudly served as a corporal in the U.S. Army. Ralph worked for the Commercial Union Insurance company and was a well-respected company representative. In addition, he also enjoyed refereeing basketball in his spare time. He started intramural basketball at St. Albert the Great where he was also an usher and a very active member in the church.

Ralph and three neighbors started a golf trip that went to Geneva on the Lake, Ohio every year in June. The trip grew over the years to include family and friends. Still to this day that tradition has continued for well over 50 years and now includes 20 golfers! “Geneva Baby”

At Paramount everyone knew and loved Ralph. Always a gentleman, kind, cooperative, friendly with a great sense of humor and a smile on his face. Every day you would see him clean shaven wearing his creased Khaki pants, starched button-down shirt, polished penny loafers, a handkerchief in one pocket and a comb in the other. Always walking around with Claire’s pink walker… guess it reminded him of all their years of walking together.

Most of his joy was seeing his family happy and laughing together. He always enjoyed a round of golf, a good happy hour, and a steak on the grill.

Ralph is survived by his daughters Kathy (Kevin) Smith, Janet (Paul) Hensler; sons Ralph H. (Heather), James G. (Robin); grandchildren Kelly (Adam), Kaitlin (Scott), George (Emily), Jake, James, and Nate as well as five great- grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, Pennsylvania 15227, Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. where a funeral prayer will be held on Wednesday, October 30 at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Albert the Great Church at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in Ralph’s name may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

Ralph was my father's table mate at Paramount. He was the nicest and kindest man. We only knew him for 9 months. He always had a smile on his face and loves talking about sports, especially basketball. He especially liked talking to my kids when they were visiting. We are so sorry to hear about his passing. You ate all in our thoughts and prayers. The Wells Family- Kelly (Bob's daughter), Chuck, Zach and Sarah Bob Foster's daughter.

Wesling Family, I am so sorry to hear about Ralph. I worked with Ralph at Commercial Union for many years. He was one of the nicest people you would ever meet. He also knew how to have a good time. Sending prayers. Sharon Brennan
