Obituary For Richard C. Obringer

Age 91, of Brentwood, passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

He was born on February 13, 1933, one of four children of Christ and Eleanor (Eichler) Obringer. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl and Robert, his sister, Lois and his son, James.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Judy (Lawton) Obringer; five children, Joyce (Ken) Scott, Tom (Jeanne) Obringer, David (Jackie) Obringer, Carol (Dave) Verbick, and Linda Obringer; by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces.

Richard graduated from Brentwood High School in 1952, was sworn into the Steamfitters Union in April of 1953, and drafted into the Army in April of 1953. He served in Korea and was discharged in April of 1955.

He loved to pitch horseshoes, bowl and shoot pool. He was a member of the Brentwood VFW Post 1810 since 1956. He was also active at St. Sylvester Church where he ushered, worked/headed the Parish Share, worked at the festival for numerous years, and installed the hymnbook holders in the church. He was also a driver for Meals on Wheels for 25 years.

The family would like to thank Dr. G. Richard Zimmerman for the many years of awesome care and compassion that he has provided to our Dad.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Saturday morning at 9:45. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Sylvester Church at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
