Obituary For Richard L. Nobs

Dick passed away at age 97 on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Father of Barbara (David) Fratta and David (Mary Beth) Nobs; grandfather of Valerie (Jared) Brown and Nicholas Nobs; great-grandfather of Sydney and Lane Brown and brother of Robert Nobs; preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Nobs, granddaughter, Jennifer Fratta, mother, Margaret McDermott, and brothers, Charles and Arthur Nobs. Faith, family, character and hard work were the cornerstones of his life. Born May 23, 1924, in Mt. Oliver, he lived most of his life in Brentwood and Whitehall. He passed away peacefully last Wednesday afternoon. Dick was a loving, devoted husband to his wife, Betty, for 68 years and dedicated his life to taking care of her, her father, his mother, his two children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1943-46, and devoted Christian, serving as treasurer for many years at Stewart Avenue Lutheran Church. Dick worked at Jones & Laughlin Steel Company for more than 30 years in a variety of capacities. In addition, he was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and volunteered his time to Meals on Wheels. Richard will be dearly missed by all who knew him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, who gave so much to so many. Friends will be received at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Monday, December 27, from 10 a.m. until the time of his funeral service at 12 noon.

    It was such an honor to have cared for Mr. Nobs. He made me smile every time I saw him and always made sure to end each visit by asking how I was doing and if there was anything he could do for me. A true gentleman!
