June 6, 1932 - April 9, 2016

Shanahan, Robert E., Sweet Old Bob of Whitehall after 83 years of making everyone smile. Tess finally unlocked the doors to the Pearly Gates on Saturday, April 9, 2016.

Loving father of Mary Jo Shanahan, Jack (Chris) Shanahan, GARY Shanahan, Barb (Dan) Riley, Tom (Cheryl) Shanahan; beloved father-in-law of Kim Shanahan. Welcomed at the gates by his loving wife, Tess, his parents John and Lavina, brothers Jack and Monsignor Jim; and sons, Robert Jr. (Zig), Jim (Shamus) and Joe. Pup-Pup to Jonathan (Sophia) Shanahan, Lauren Riley; Katie, Ashley, Meghan, Alyssa, Jim, Justin and Tom Shanahan; great Pup-Pup to Jon James Shanahan; loving brother to Mary Daly and Joanne Puharic; favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews. After serving in the Korean War, Bob began his career in transportation which spanned 50+ years and culminated with the founding of Shanahan Transportation Systems in 1989. He was an usher at St. Sylvester Church and served on the Brentwood School Board for 22 years. He served on the Board of Governors and as President of South Hills Country Club. Almost as much as he adored his family, Bob was the Mayor of Tambellini's and loved golf, cigars and VO manhattans. Bob's family would like to recognize and extend their deep appreciation to Bob's Angels: Karen, Lee Ann, Janet, Jamie, Christy, Bobbi and Teresa who provided him with exceptional loving care until his final breath. Friends will be received at the John F. Tom, I know how hard it is to loose a great Dad and life long mentor. However, he's with Mom now and hopefully that will provide some solace. As he was a fellow Irishman, I'm certain he would want you to hoist a pint in celebration of his life, and I'm sure he would say: I could not stay another day, To love, to laugh, to work or play, Tasks left undone must stay that way, And if my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. All the best my friend. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
