Southorn, Robert E. "Suds", age 82, Of Whitehall, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2017.

Loving husband of Patricia J. Southorn; father of Laurie Orem (John), of Darien, CT, Robert G. Southorn of Whitehall and Betsy Rae (Gary) of Seven Fields, PA; proud Pap Pap of Katie, Caroline, Maggie, Andrew, Tommy, MaryKate, James and Ben; brother of Dolores Rice (the late William) of Houston, TX; uncle of Cynthia Rice ( and son Nathan Jones) also of Houston. Hail to Pitt! Bob was a proud 1957 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he played basketball and earned his BBA in Business Administration. Prior to Pitt, he was a standout basketball star at South Hills High School where he graduated from in 1953. Upon graduation, Bob started a long and successful career at Mellon Bank. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Banking and became a BAI Certified Internal Auditor in 1970. After 43 years at Mellon, Bob retired as Vice President-Manager, Mellon Bank Consumer Compliance Division. He spent his retirement years playing golf and relaxing in Naples, FL. While in Pittsburgh, he enjoyed playing golf in the South Park Men's Over 60 Golf League. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Friday, May 5, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Saturday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church at 10:00 am.
